Selling Products Reflecting Songdang Area Stories and Values
"Plan to Showcase Diverse Spaces Reflecting Regional Values"
A regionally specialized concept store of Paris Baguette has opened in Songdang Donghwa Village, Jeju Island, which has emerged as a new tourist destination.
Paris Baguette announced on the 13th that it has opened the 'Paris Baguette Donghwa Village Branch.'
Located in the mountainous area of eastern Jeju Island, Songdang Donghwa Village is an open park introduced last year, featuring 21 themed gardens based on Jeju’s nature and mythology. The Paris Baguette Donghwa Village Branch is characterized by its concept as the ‘22nd garden’ of Donghwa Village, capturing the unique natural atmosphere of Jeju.
In particular, it incorporates the customs of Songdang, which have long wished for happiness and luck, along with a horse character symbolizing the region, volcanic stones, and wood?elements of Jeju’s nature?into its products, packaging, and store interior to provide customers with differentiated value and experiences.
The standalone store, with 101 seats and large windows, offers a sense of spaciousness and openness, while the interior design actively utilizes plants to evoke a nature-friendly ambiance.
Reflecting the loconomy (local + economy) trend, the store reinterprets Jeju’s local specialties and symbolic elements with Paris Baguette’s unique sensibility, offering limited-edition bakery items and beverages sold exclusively at the Donghwa Village Branch. These include ▲‘Sea Scent Fougasse,’ a savory and chewy dough filled generously with olives, squid, and seaweed for a diverse texture ▲‘Keomeong Bread Swallowing Omegitteok,’ a signature bread with a whole Omegitteok inside, resembling Jeju’s black volcanic stones, sweet and savory ▲‘Jeju Matcha Oreum Cake,’ a tart cake with Jeju matcha ganache shaped like Jeju’s Oreum (volcanic cone) ▲Live ‘Jeju Philly Pork Baguette,’ grilled Jeju black pork served warm and freshly prepared on-site ▲‘Jeju Barley Castella,’ moist and savory castella cake baked using Jeju’s specialty green barley ▲and 100% freshly squeezed carrot juice made from carrots favored by Mongsaengi.
Meanwhile, Paris Baguette Donghwa Village Branch has developed and introduced ‘Mongsaengi,’ a mascot character that embodies the horse symbolizing Jeju’s Songdang region in a cute and mystical concept. Mongsaengi will communicate with customers through various channels such as products, packaging, store interiors, and social media with a friendly image.
A Paris Baguette official said, “The Donghwa Village Branch is a store that embodies the ‘Jeju-ness’ of Jeju’s Songdang region through its products and space,” adding, “We will continue to introduce products and spaces that reflect the unique values and characteristics of each region to provide customers with special experiences.”
