Want to See 10 Million Roses?... 2024 Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival

May, the month to fully enjoy the queen of flowers, the rose, brings back Seoul’s representative spring festival, the ‘2024 Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival.’

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) Cultural Foundation (CEO Yoo Kyung-ae) announced that from May 18 to May 25, for eight days, the ‘2024 Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival,’ known as ‘the most beautiful festival in Seoul,’ will be held throughout the Jungnang Rose Garden area.

Starting this year, the festival’s name has been changed to ‘2024 Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival’ to include ‘Jungnang’ in the title. This change aims to preserve the historical significance and uniqueness of Jungnang-gu’s local festival and to establish its identity as a regional festival that will continue its tradition for over 100 years.

Visitors to the Rose Park can also see Jungnang-gu’s exclusive new rose variety named ‘Mangu Rose,’ which was named last year through a naming ceremony. To make it easier to find the beautiful roses you want to see, a ‘Jungnang Rose Garden Rose Distribution Map’ has been created to enhance viewing convenience.

As Korea’s representative rose festival, the event focuses on roses by planting an additional 8,000 rose bushes to fully enjoy the ‘beautiful roses,’ the main attraction of the festival. Visitors can admire ten million roses throughout the festival grounds, including the 5.45 km rose tunnel along the Jungnangcheon embankment?the largest in Korea?and rose gardens in five other locations such as Surimdae Park. With 209 varieties and approximately 310,000 rose bushes, roses from around the world including France, Germany, and Denmark such as Angela, Pink Perfume, Grande Classe, and Gold Facade will be in full bloom.

The festival, featuring a spectacular display of ten million roses, offers a variety of attractions, food, and entertainment waiting for visitors.

On the first day of the festival, May 18, the event kicks off with a Rose Parade with Jungnang-gu residents, followed by the Jungnang Rose Week proclamation ceremony and a rose concert. Singers Kim Hee-jae and Soyu-mi will perform at the rose concert to elevate the festival atmosphere.

On the second day, May 19, activities include Rose Plogging, the Jungnang Citizen Awards Ceremony, and the Rose Song Festival. The Rose Song Festival features the Jungnang-gu residents’ singing contest championship, with a main event finale performance by singer Bae Ah-hyun, a former contestant of Miss Trot 3 and Jungnang-gu’s promotional ambassador.

Various booths and programs to satisfy all five senses are also prepared. These include ▲Rose Industry Exhibition ▲Rose-themed items using the festival BI ▲Rose Market ▲Rose Bookstore ▲Jungnang-gu experience and promotion ▲Domestic exchange hall ▲16 neighborhood sharing markets ▲Rose Road Market selling excellent products from Jungnang-gu small and medium enterprises ▲and the Rose Flower Light Street Flea Market held on Dongil-ro 163-gil.

Food booths operated by Jungnang-gu traditional markets and organizations will offer a variety of dishes, providing another source of enjoyment for tourists visiting the festival. Special attention will be given to controlling excessive pricing, which has been controversial at many festivals. A report center for overcharging will operate during the festival, and an on-site inspection task force will be formed to intensively monitor and crack down on such practices. Additionally, the district will run the ‘Jungnang Rose Week Linked Restaurants’ offering a 10% discount to visitors of the Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival.

The ‘2024 Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival’ is an environmentally conscious festival, conducting the zeROSE Waste campaign. Activities include ‘Rose Plogging,’ where participants pick up trash while running along the rose paths, operation of the ‘zeROSE Cafe’ with eco-friendly products and tumbler discounts, and online events including environmental campaigns, all aimed at creating an eco-friendly festival together with visitors.

On the final day of the festival, May 25, related events such as the Jungnang Artist Festival, the Malkong Dalkong In Myeonmok festival of the Myeonmok living commercial district, and the Social Welfare Expo will be held at Myeonmok Sports Park.

The district is putting all efforts into safety management for visitors, anticipating large crowds. About 2,400 safety personnel will be deployed throughout the festival site to maintain order and ensure safety. Crowded areas will be closely monitored, and a close cooperation system with related agencies such as police and fire departments will be established to prepare for any emergencies.

Yoo Kyung-ae, CEO of Jungnang Cultural Foundation, said, “The Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival attracted as many as 2.6 million visitors last year, making it a representative flower festival in Seoul. We are meticulously preparing to make the 2024 Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival full of sights, food, and fun, so we ask for your great interest and cooperation to ensure a safe and successful festival.”

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, also said, “The festival is even more meaningful because it is created together with residents. We have prepared various spaces and programs where you can enjoy the festival while admiring the ten million blooming roses, so please enjoy it with your family, lovers, and friends.”
