LG Energy Solution Rewards 12 Employees for Patent Applications... "Efforts for a Challenging R&D Culture"

LG Energy Solution selected and rewarded 12 employees who filed key patents related to batteries.

On the 12th, LG Energy Solution announced that it held the '2024 Inventor King & Patent Application King Awards Ceremony' at its Park One headquarters in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to recognize employees who developed innovative battery technologies.

Six employees who filed influential innovative patents in the industry received the 'Inventor King' award, and six employees who filed multiple key patents received the 'Patent Application King' award. Internal and external experts comprehensively evaluated patentability, technicality, and business potential.

The Inventor King Gold Award was given to Hwang Bo-gwangsu, team leader of the Small Battery Development Center, who invented the unidirectional electrical connection structure between the positive and negative electrodes and the connection structure between the electrode terminal and the current collector, applied for the first time in LG Energy Solution’s cylindrical 46 series.

By changing the connection structure between the electrode terminal and the tab within the new cylindrical form factor, energy density and resistance were dramatically improved compared to existing technologies. LG Energy Solution stated, "This patent has further strengthened our leadership in the 46-series technology, which is considered a next-generation battery."

Other inventions selected as Inventor King technologies include ▲Voltage anomaly behavior diagnosis method using moving average deviation (Silver Award, Sung Yong-cheol, Principal Researcher) ▲Particle design technology to enhance high-temperature safety of NCM single particles (Silver Award, Yoo Tae-gu, Principal Researcher) ▲Battery pack technology with surface cooling method (Bronze Award, Cho Sang-hyun, Team Leader) ▲Insulating coating cathode technology securing electrolyte wet adhesion (Bronze Award, Jung Ju-young, Principal Researcher) ▲Silicon-based anode active material volume expansion/contraction suppression and lifespan improvement technology (Bronze Award, Oh Il-geun, Principal Researcher).

The Patent Application King Gold Award was awarded to Yoon Sun-woo, Principal Researcher, who contributed to filing key patents in the pack electronic components development field. ▲Bae Won-sik, Principal Researcher (Silver Award) ▲Yoon Jong-soo, Principal Researcher (Silver Award) ▲Lee Taek-soo, Principal Researcher (Bronze Award) ▲Hwang Sung-taek, Principal Researcher (Bronze Award) ▲Shin Joo-hwan, Principal Researcher (Bronze Award) were also selected as Patent Application Kings.

LG Energy Solution recently announced that it will take a strong stance against indiscriminate unauthorized use of patents by latecomer companies to foster a global battery patent license market and lead a fair competitive environment in the battery industry.
