On the 9th, local media including Zhonghua Net reported that on the 6th, a Xiaomi SU7 vehicle in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, stopped due to a system malfunction after driving only 39km. The Xiaomi SU7 Standard model is equipped with a 73.6kWh battery and can travel 700km (435 miles), while the SU7 Pro model has a 94.3kWh battery and can travel 830km (516 miles).

Owner A posted a related video on the social networking service (SNS) Weibo, saying, "The vehicle broke down after only 39 km from the center after delivery," and "I had to wait with my family for the tow truck to arrive." In the video, A’s vehicle is stopped on the shoulder with hazard lights on. The internal screen displayed warning messages such as "The vehicle will stop soon, please safely park the car and contact the online service center," and "Due to a drive system fault, gear shifting is not possible."

Xiaomi: "Cause of malfunction unclear after vehicle inspection... We will also take responsibility for user losses" but 'unresponsive' controversy continues

Xiaomi stated that the return process for the vehicle has already been completed and that they "will take responsibility for user losses caused by the vehicle recall." However, while suggesting it may be a system error, they explained, "The vehicle inspection did not clearly reveal the specific cause of the malfunction."

The SU7 is Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle, launched in March. It was released three years after Xiaomi announced its entry into the automotive industry. It attracted attention with its exterior resembling the Porsche electric vehicle 'Taycan,' compatibility with Apple products, and a starting price of 215,900 yuan (about 40 million KRW) for the base model. The SU7 recorded over 88,000 pre-orders within a day of its launch, seemingly positioning itself as a top contender in the electric vehicle market. However, recent claims have emerged about the vehicle losing balance, gear operation issues, and unresponsive steering, leading to so-called 'unresponsive' controversies. Xiaomi has been called the 'Mistake of the Continent' for producing products so well-made that they defy the prejudice against Chinese products being cheap but low quality.
