Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province (Governor Son Byeong-bok) will offer free admission to Seongryugul Cave, a national heritage site, for five days from the 15th to the 19th, in celebration of the Cultural Heritage Administration's relaunch as the "National Heritage Agency" starting on the 17th.
According to the Cultural Heritage Administration, since the enactment of the Cultural Heritage Protection Act in 1962, the term "cultural heritage," which had a strong connotation of tangible and past artifacts for over 60 years, has been expanded to the concept of "heritage" that encompasses the past, present, and future in line with international standards. To systematically preserve, manage, and utilize national heritage, related laws and the name of the Cultural Heritage Administration have been changed.
Accordingly, Uljin-gun has decided to cooperate with the free admission period before and after the launch date to inform the public visiting national heritage sites about the newly established National Heritage Agency.
Seongryugul Cave, Natural Monument No. 155, is a representative tourist attraction of Uljin-gun. Since being directly managed by the county in 1976, it has welcomed 20 million visitors. Recently, after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of visitors has increased again, with 230,000 visitors recorded in 2023.
The visiting hours for Seongryugul Cave are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed every Monday, but during the summer season from July 20 to August 20, it operates normally without any closing days.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Seongryugul Operation Team at the Department of Culture and Tourism.
