Recently, in response to the changing global automotive market trends centered on electric vehicles and future cars, BorgWarner is focusing on developing electrification parts for electric and hybrid vehicles to transition into an electrification parts company, accelerating the shift to future mobility.

The BorgWarner Daegu Research Center, whose completion ceremony was held on this day, is the result of a $43.6 million (approximately 62 billion KRW) investment agreement signed between BorgWarner and Daegu City in November 2022. It is an R&D center for electrified drive motors for future mobility.

The research center is situated on a site of 5,303㎡ (1,604 pyeong) with a total floor area of 5,307㎡ (1,608 pyeong), housing technical research buildings and evaluation buildings.

BorgWarner DTC, a newly established corporation by BorgWarner in Daegu, plans to develop electrification products including high-voltage hairpin (HVH), continuous winding stators, inverters, and integrated drive modules (iDM) applying BorgWarner’s proprietary technology to meet the rapidly increasing demand for electrified drive systems due to the automotive industry's shift toward electric and future vehicles. It will also conduct prototype production and performance evaluation.

Daegu City is focusing its administrative efforts on fostering Daegu as a leading city in the future mobility industry by supporting motor company clustering, motor R&D, advanced technology development, and commercialization through the mobility motor materials and parts specialized complex selected last year.

With the full-scale commencement of research and development at the BorgWarner Daegu Research Center, it is expected that Daegu’s industrial structure transition centered on future mobility will gain further momentum.

Rob Gunter, Vice President of BorgWarner, said, “It is a great honor to partner with Daegu City, which has a strong foundation in the future mobility sector, and I am infinitely grateful to Daegu City for the one-stop support provided during the land supply and research center construction process.”

Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, stated, “We expect the BorgWarner Daegu Research Center to greatly contribute to expanding the future mobility industrial ecosystem,” and added, “We will spare no administrative and policy support to enable BorgWarner to play a leading role as a global leader in the electrified drive system field.”
