Energy Cashback Reaches 900,000 Households... Event Underway to Achieve 1 Million Households

An event is being held for Energy Cashback subscribers to encourage one million households to join the program that refunds charges when electricity usage is reduced.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 9th, the number of Energy Cashback subscribing households as of May is 900,000.

The Ministry plans to randomly select 200 households from those who subscribe by July 14 (including existing subscribers) and provide electronic products such as smartwatches and circulators, as well as national tourism gift certificates for use during the summer vacation season.

Energy Cashback is a national participation program aimed at establishing an energy-saving culture, implemented nationwide since the second half of 2022. Individual households (residential electricity users) who subscribe to Energy Cashback and reduce their electricity usage by more than 3% compared to the average of the previous two years receive a deduction on the next month's bill at a rate of 30 to 100 KRW per kWh according to the reduction rate, up to 30% of the amount saved.

Last year, the electricity usage reduction through Energy Cashback was 231 GWh, equivalent to the one-month electricity consumption of 950,000 households. This is higher than the annual electricity consumption of residential customers in Jung-gu, Seoul (226 GWh). If the number of subscribing households increases to one million, the expected reduction (306 GWh) is expected to be similar to the annual electricity consumption of residential customers in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do (315 GWh). If it exceeds 1.5 million households, the expected reduction (460 GWh) will surpass the amount generated by a 500 MW-class thermal power plant operating for one month (360 GWh).

Energy Cashback subscriptions can be made by searching for 'KEPCO Energy Cashback' on portal sites or through the 'KEPCO ON' website. In-person registration is also available at nearby KEPCO offices nationwide.
