Trump Breathes a Sigh of Relief... 'Classified Leak' Trial Indefinitely Postponed

Insufficient Trial Preparation Including Compliance with Confidentiality Procedures
Ruling Expected Only After Presidential Election
Key Testimony Emerges in 'Sex Scandal Bribery' Trial

Former President Donald Trump's trial over the 'leak of classified documents' has been postponed indefinitely. The verdict is expected to be delivered only after the November presidential election.

On the 7th (local time), according to local media including the AP News, Judge Aileen Cannon of the Southern District Court of Florida canceled the trial date originally scheduled for the 20th for the classified leak case against former President Trump and did not set a new trial date.

Judge Cannon explained the reason for the trial delay, saying, "There are too many complex legal rules and deadlines surrounding the classified evidence used in the public trial," and "It would be a reckless decision to set a new trial date when the trial preparation is insufficient." In the United States, cases involving classified documents must comply with the rules and legal procedures defined by the Classified Information Procedures Act (CIPA). Regarding this, Judge Cannon set the deadline for the parties involved in the trial to comply with the classified handling procedures as July 22. Until then, the classified leak trial will not be held.

Earlier, former President Trump was indicted on charges of taking classified documents to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida after leaving office in 2021 and failing to comply with the government's request for their return. The Washington Post (WP) reported that some of the materials were related to nuclear secrets, Iran's missile program, and U.S. intelligence activities within China.

Former President Trump is the first former U.S. president to be indicted on criminal charges and is currently entangled in a total of four criminal cases, including the classified leak case. The trial over 'overturning the election results' is currently under review by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding Trump's claim of immunity, and the 'Georgia election interference' trial has not yet set a first hearing date.

Meanwhile, the 'hush money for sexual misconduct' trial currently underway in New York appears to be going unfavorably for former President Trump due to the appearance of a key witness. Former adult film actress Stormy Daniels appeared in court that day and testified about her sexual relationship with Trump and receiving hush money. Earlier, former President Trump was brought to trial on charges of paying $130,000 through his personal lawyer Michael Cohen to prevent the disclosure of his past sexual relationship with Daniels just before the 2016 presidential election and falsifying company records related to the payment.
