A senior police officer affiliated with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency was found to have caused a collision while driving under the influence.
According to the Jungbu Police Station in Seoul on the 7th, Superintendent A was booked and is under investigation for causing a collision with another vehicle while driving after drinking in Jung-gu, Seoul, in the early hours of the 3rd (suspected DUI under the Road Traffic Act).
At the time of the accident, Superintendent A's blood alcohol concentration was found to have exceeded 0.08%, the level for license cancellation.
Superintendent A, who was dispatched to work at the Seoul Metropolitan Government Autonomous Police Committee, has reportedly been placed on standby duty under the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's General Affairs Division.
Despite stern warnings from top officials including Police Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun and Seoul Metropolitan Police Commissioner Jo Ji-ho, police misconduct has not been eradicated.
At a regular press briefing in April, Commissioner Jo said regarding the repeated misconduct by the police, "As the head of the Seoul police, I have no face to meet the public," and added, "I will do whatever it takes to restore discipline within the Seoul police."
