Government Receives 'Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act' Transferred from National Assembly

On the afternoon of the 7th, the Ministry of Government Legislation received the 'Special Prosecutor Act on the Investigation Pressure Allegations in the Death Case of Marine Corps Corporal Chaesangbyeong' (Chaesangbyeong Special Prosecutor Act) from the National Assembly.

The core of the Chaesangbyeong Special Prosecutor Act is to investigate allegations that the Presidential Office and the Ministry of National Defense exerted pressure during the process in which the Marine Corps Investigation Unit investigated the death of Marine Corps Corporal Chae, who died during a missing person search operation last July, and transferred the case to the police.

The Chaesangbyeong Special Prosecutor Act was passed solely by opposition parties including the Democratic Party at the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 2nd.

The Presidential Office indicated the possibility of exercising the right to request reconsideration (veto) by stating that it is "bad politics that tries to exploit the tragic death of Chaesangbyeong for political purposes."

President Yoon Suk-yeol can exercise the veto within 15 days from this day.
