Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that the 2nd Gwangsan MusicON Festival held at Hwangryonggang Waterside Park on the 4th and 5th attracted over 70,000 people and concluded amid intense enthusiasm.
Against the beautiful backdrop of Hwangryonggang Jangnok Wetland, Korea's first urban national wetland, the festival featured a spectacular performance by a star-studded lineup and an unforgettable airshow by the Air Force Black Eagles. The event drew numerous citizens during the Golden Holiday of Children's Day.
With a rich array of attractions and activities including street performances by local artists, a ‘Busking Zone’ where any citizen could showcase their talent and passion, citizen participation experience booths, and food trucks, the festival provided the ultimate enjoyment on a spring day in May.
The 2nd Gwangsan MusicON Festival, which doubled the number of live musician performances compared to last year, generated huge buzz with its all-star lineup even before it began.
Top-tier Korean singers and bands such as December DK (DK), HYNN (Park Hye-won), Kim Ki-tae, Guckkasten, Monday Kiz, MeloMance, and Romantic Punch, totaling 12 teams, took the stage.
The high interest and expectations heated up the festival site early on. Especially on the first day, crowds flocked to secure good spots to enjoy the stage, creating a sea of people around the main stage from early hours. The standing seats, expanded from 400 last year to 1,000 this year, sold out repeatedly.
Over the two days, the ‘music festival’ performances left no stage to skip, turning the festival site into a frenzy filled with cheers and passion. Despite heavy rain on the second day, a considerable number of citizens filled the front of the stage, keeping the energy alive.
A special event highlight was the airshow by the Republic of Korea Air Force’s special flight team, the Black Eagles. Composed of eight domestically produced supersonic T-50B aircraft, the Black Eagles showcased dazzling and intricate aerobatics based on high-level cohesion. For 15 minutes, everyone at the site fixed their eyes on the sky, unable to look away. Amid continuous admiration and exclamations for their majestic maneuvers and astonishing stunts, the moment the Black Eagles painted the Taegeukgi in the Gwangsan sky was met with huge cheers and applause.
The Gwangsan MusicON Festival, set against the lush and vibrant Hwangryonggang Jangnok Wetland, promoted itself from the start as a ‘picnic-style festival’ where people of all ages, families, and friends could comfortably relax and enjoy like a picnic, receiving great response from citizens.
Not only the main stage’s mat seating but also the ‘Music Picnic Zone’ with free use of Indian tents, and the ‘Mulmeong Bitmeong Zone’ with shade structures were almost always fully occupied throughout the festival. The ‘Personal Tent Zone,’ where attendees could use their own tents, was also packed with colorful tents.
Despite the large crowds and heavy rain on the second day, the festival was safely conducted without a single safety incident, thanks to citizens who volunteered to assist with venue guidance, order maintenance, and traffic control. Over 300 citizens participated as safety personnel over the two days, including groups such as the Gwangsan-gu Autonomous Crime Prevention Union, the Marine Corps Gwangsan Veterans Association, and the Gwangsan Police Station Police and Auxiliary Police Council, playing a major role in ensuring the smooth progress of the festival.
