Yeongyang-gun Promotes 'Safe Farmers'... Analysis and Improvement of Risk Factors by Crop Type

Pilot Project for Customized Safety Management Implementation

Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province (Governor Oh Do-chang) is promoting the ‘2024 Customized Safety Management Practice Pilot Project by Crop’ starting May 3 at the Cheonggi 2-ri Village Hall for the Jindeul Crop Group, consisting of 17 farmers, to spread the practice of safety management for farmers.

Yeongyang-gun Promotes 'Safe Farmers'... Analysis and Improvement of Risk Factors by Crop Type Yeongyang-gun, which analyzes and seeks to improve risk factors by crop for the safety of farmers.

The Customized Safety Management Practice Pilot Project by Crop diagnoses and analyzes the risks occurring during each stage of crop work, improving them to prevent agricultural work accidents and enhance the safety of farmers.

The Yeongyang-gun Agricultural Technology Center invited Professor Shin Hyung-su from Kyungwoon University as a consultant to conduct musculoskeletal program education and PAOT (Participatory Agricultural Work Environment Improvement Training) to identify hazards at each stage of agricultural work, establish improvement measures, and then carry out agricultural work improvement practices and evaluations.

The musculoskeletal program for farmer safety management includes bone density measurement for farmers, musculoskeletal taping treatment by body part, TheraBand training, and practical emergency treatment methods in daily agricultural work. Expert consulting follows the stages of crop-specific work analysis → risk factor analysis and risk assessment → establishment of improvement measures → implementation and evaluation of improvements, distributing safety equipment based on risk analysis at each work stage.

The Participatory Agricultural Work Environment Improvement (PAOT) training aims to improve the agricultural work environment and raise safety awareness through farmers’ voluntary participation, covering topics such as agricultural machinery safety, agricultural work environment management, division of work and rest, and basic safety management.

Jo Yong-wan, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “We will actively promote education for the habitual prevention of safety accidents and projects to create a safe and efficient agricultural work environment so that all farmers in Yeongyang-gun can work in safe agricultural workplaces.”
