Jeongeup City in Jeollabuk-do announced on the 7th that it will promote various support projects to increase the income of goat farming households.
This is due to the enactment of the "Special Act on the Termination of Dog Breeding, Slaughter, and Distribution for Food Purposes (abbreviated as the Dog Meat Termination Act)" on February 6, which has led to a gradual increase in the number of goat farming households as an alternative demand.
This year, the city will invest a total of 253 million KRW in five projects: ▲Support for improving goat productivity ▲Support for black goat breeding stock ▲Strengthening black goat competitiveness ▲Support for livestock equipment ▲Support for improving livestock product quality.

The support projects for improving goat productivity and black goat breeding stock provide immune boosters and hay to farms struggling with poor facilities and high mortality rates, and supply high-performance superior black goat breeding stock to prevent inbreeding, aiming to prevent various diseases and produce healthy goats.
With the domestic market opening due to Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and the declining competitiveness of goat farming households, various support projects are also being promoted to improve productivity and reduce management costs, including scales for weight measurement, mineral feeders, probiotics, and drinking water quality improvers.
An official from the Livestock Division said, "Through this project, we hope to strengthen the competitiveness of goat farming households, increase farm income, and actively respond to rapidly changing international situations," adding, "We plan to discover and support various policies for the increasing number of farms every year."
Meanwhile, Jeongeup City currently has 8,533 goats raised across 85 farms, with the number increasing annually.
