On the 6th, Yonhap News and other media reported, "The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Jo Seok-gyu) recently arrested and indicted YouTuber Um (30) on charges including extortion and defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act." Um, who has 300,000 subscribers, is accused of approaching Mr. A, a senior from the high school of Shin (28), the perpetrator of the so-called 'Apgujeong Rolls-Royce hit-and-run' incident, and threatening to reveal Shin's connections and separate criminal suspicions of Mr. A on YouTube, thereby receiving 300 million won.

In August last year, Um confessed on his YouTube live broadcast, "I received 300 million won on the condition that I would not mention anyone other than the perpetrator of the Apgujeong Rolls-Royce incident on the broadcast," adding, "I will give all this money to the victim(s) of the (Rolls-Royce) incident." However, it is known that the victim's family did not receive this money.

Previously, Um had disclosed the identities of perpetrators involved in socially outraging assault and child abuse cases on his YouTube channel. Besides the Apgujeong Rolls-Royce incident, it was confirmed that he received a total of about 180 million won from two other perpetrators using the same method. Um gained fame by broadcasting content with the intent of 'punishing privately instead of the law' through his personal YouTube broadcasts, revealing the identities of perpetrators. Um was issued an arrest warrant on the 8th while the police investigation was ongoing.

Perpetrator of Rolls-Royce incident sentenced to 20 years in first trial appeals... Additional indictment during second trial

Meanwhile, Shin, the perpetrator of the 'Apgujeong Rolls-Royce incident,' drove a Rolls-Royce under the influence of drugs near Apgujeong Station on August 2 last year and crashed onto the sidewalk. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the first trial for hitting a woman in her 20s, leaving her in a brain-dead state, and fleeing the scene. Dissatisfied with this verdict, Shin is currently undergoing a second trial. On the 29th, the Violent Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Yeon-sil) additionally indicted Shin without detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances) and the Resident Registration Act. Shin is accused of habitually administering sleep anesthetics such as propofol, midazolam, and ketamine a total of 57 times at 14 clinics from June 2022 to August 2 last year through so-called 'hospital shopping,' and of using others' names during the process.
