High School Student Yang Eun-seo Finds Bundle of Cash and Hands It Over to Police
Restaurant Owner "Moved by Her Kind Heart... Will Provide Gukbap for Life"
The recent update on the high school girl who picked up a bundle of cash dropped on the street and handed it over to the police has become a hot topic. On the 7th, an online community post titled 'The recent update on the high school girl who found 1.22 million won and took it to the police station' went viral. It contained the story of Yang Eun-seo, a first-year high school student, who found a bundle of cash lost by a restaurant owner in Hadong, Gyeongnam, last February and brought it to the police station.

At the time, the police confirmed through closed-circuit television (CCTV) that the restaurant owner, Ha Chang-sil, dropped the money from his pocket while riding a bicycle, and they tracked Ha’s route to return the cash Eun-seo had found. This story was introduced on the National Police Agency’s YouTube channel on the 25th of last month, and netizens praised Eun-seo’s conscientious behavior. Later, it was revealed in a broadcast interview that although Eun-seo was saving money to buy merchandise from an idol group and was momentarily tempted by the bundle of cash, she chose her conscience.
Eun-seo said on MBC’s ‘Live Morning Today,’ “Even if I took the money, I thought I wouldn’t be able to use it because of my conscience. I thought I would regret it.” The restaurant owner Ha, who appeared on the show with her, said, “I decided to appear on the broadcast to share Eun-seo’s kind heart. My situation is difficult right now, but who isn’t struggling? The money is precious, so I was moved that she returned it.”
The broadcast also showed Eun-seo’s first visit to Ha’s restaurant. Eun-seo shyly entered the restaurant, and Ha warmly welcomed her, saying, “Have a bowl of gukbap (rice soup) before you go,” and served her a warm bowl of stew. After finding the lost money thanks to Eun-seo, Ha had promised to give her “free gukbap every day,” and Eun-seo asked, “Are you really going to give me gukbap every day?” Ha laughed and replied, “Of course. A man is a ‘meosma’ in the Gyeongsang-do dialect.”
Netizens responded to their meeting with comments such as “It’s heartwarming news for a change,” “Her heart is truly beautiful,” “The way she finished the bowl cleanly is cute,” and “Perfectly ‘wanttuk’ (finishing all the food until the bowl is empty).” Eun-seo is also scheduled to appear on tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’ on the 8th.
