Who is the final designer of 'Nodeul Global Art Island'... Public review presentation on the 28th

Seoul City Finalizes Design Plan Selection
Seven Domestic and International Architects Participate
World-Renowned Architect 'Tom Main' Appointed as Jury Chair

The design plan to transform Seoul's Nodeul Island into the 'Nodeul Global Art Island' will be finalized at the end of this month.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 6th that it will hold a public review presentation for selecting the 'Nodeul Global Art Island' design plan on the 28th. Seven domestic and international architects will present their design proposals in person, followed by a 20-minute Q&A session. This event will be broadcast live on YouTube.

The chair of the judging panel is the world-renowned architect Tom Mayne (USA). Tom Mayne received the Pritzker Prize, known as the Nobel Prize of architecture, in 2005. From 2009, he served as the sole architect on the U.S. President’s Advisory Committee for eight years, advising on urban and architectural systems and administration. Domestically, he is well known as the architect of the Kolon One & Only Tower in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu. Other judges include architect Ben van Berkel (Netherlands), Professor Moon-Kyu Choi of Yonsei University, Professor Hyun-Tae Jung of New York Institute of Technology, CEO Jung-Hoon Lee of Joho Architects, Director Yong-Jun Cho of CA Landscape Architecture Office, and Professor Yong-Hwa Kim of Korea National University of Arts (film director).

Citizens wishing to attend the public review presentation in person can apply through the Seoul design competition website ‘Project Seoul’ from the 8th to the 10th. Each day, 120 people will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10 a.m., totaling 360 attendees over three days.

The Nodeul Global Art Island project is the first pilot project in the public sector as part of the ‘Urban and Architectural Design Innovation Plan’ announced by the city last year. Based on planning and design ideas submitted by domestic and international architects in April last year, the city established the project plan and launched an international design competition in February this year.

Meanwhile, to understand citizens’ expectations for the Nodeul Global Art Island, a public preference survey will be conducted through the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the ‘Project Seoul’ website from after the public review presentation until the 31st of this month. Any citizen can participate in the voting.

Im Chang-su, Director of Future Space Planning at Seoul City, said, “We prepared the design competition judging as a public presentation to create the ‘Nodeul Global Art Island,’ a new landmark and world-class attraction in Seoul, based on citizen participation and empathy. Starting with the final design selection, we will do our best to transparently disclose the development process and transform the space into one that reflects citizens’ wishes.”
