Large-Scale Anti-Corruption Campaign

According to major foreign media on the 5th, Vietnamese police announced that they arrested Mai Thien Trung, former Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, on the previous day in Lam Dong Province in the Central Highlands on charges of abuse of power related to a corruption case and are currently investigating him.
Minister Trung served as Minister of the Prime Minister's Office from 2016 to 2021 during the presidency of Nguyen Xuan Phuc. The case is known to be related to an eco-tourism real estate development project in Lam Dong Province.
In February 2023, Minister Trung received a warning for being involved in corruption related to special entry measures for Vietnamese nationals implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
