Ulsan Health and Environment Institute Launches Soil Pollution Survey... 65 Sites in Usage Areas Including 'Children's Facilities'

The Ulsan Health and Environment Research Institute will conduct a survey on soil contamination concerns from May to October.

The survey targets a total of 65 locations divided into 9 land-use categories, including 20 sites in children's playground areas, 13 sites in industrial complexes and factory areas, and 12 sites in traffic-related facility areas, to investigate contamination status.

Among these, the key pollution sources are 25 sites in industrial complexes, factories, and traffic-related facility areas, accounting for 38.5% of the total.

Additionally, 11 sites that exceeded 70% of the soil regional standard for heavy metals and fluoride concentrations in last year's soil contamination survey are also included for re-investigation.

By region, Nam-gu has the most sites with 21, followed by Ulju-gun with 20, Dong-gu and Buk-gu with 9 each, and Jung-gu with 6.

The survey items include 8 heavy metals such as lead and copper, 14 general items including fluoride and organophosphates, and 1 item for soil pH, totaling 23 items.

The survey results will be notified to the respective city and county offices, and after verification and statistical analysis by the National Institute of Environmental Research, they will be disclosed on the Soil and Groundwater Information System after April next year.

The Health and Environment Research Institute stated, "The soil contamination survey is an important project to prevent soil pollution in advance and to proactively respond to management," adding, "We will conduct reliable and accurate contamination tests."
