Guro-gu Holds 'Buddha's Birthday Lighting Ceremony' to Commemorate Buddha's Birthday... District Mayor Mun Heon-il Attends

Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) held a Buddha's Birthday Lantern Lighting Ceremony on the 3rd at the district office plaza ahead of Buddha's Birthday.


The event was attended by about 50 people, including Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, Ven. Ido-gak, head monk of Myeonghwasa Temple, devotees, and members of the Buddhist group Bulsimhoe at the Guro-gu Office. The program proceeded in the order of △ Three Refuges and the Heart Sutra chanting △ introduction of guests △ congratulatory speeches △ ceremony △ reading of the vow △ delivery of rice donations to neighbors in need △ lantern lighting ceremony △ and the Four Great Vows.


At the event, Myeonghwasa Temple donated 1,300 kg of rice, filled with the warm love and sincerity of Buddhists, to help neighbors in need.


The district plans to distribute the donated rice to underprivileged neighbors in the community.


This year, one bell lantern and 250 pleated lanterns were installed in front of the district office plaza, and the lights will remain lit until May 19.


Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, said, “From the Buddha’s teachings, we learn to purify our minds, cherish our connections, and cultivate compassion by respecting and caring for everyone without discrimination. Like the lanterns lit today, I hope compassion and peace brightly fill the hearts of Guro-gu residents.”
