Chungju 4-term Lee Jong-bae to Run for Ruling Party Floor Leader... Seong Il-jong Declares Non-candidacy

Emphasizing Experience as Policy Committee Chair
"I Will Restore the Flag of the Collapsed Conservative Party"
Floor Leader Election Scheduled for the 9th

On the 3rd, Rep. Lee Jong-bae of the People Power Party officially announced his candidacy for the floor leader election. Rep. Lee has served three terms representing Chungju, Chungbuk, and achieved a fourth term in this general election.


On the same day, through his Facebook, Rep. Lee stated, "This floor leader election is the first button to start over by deeply reflecting the solemn will of the people," adding, "Therefore, I am running for floor leader to restore the trust of the people in the People Power Party once again and to straighten the banner of the fallen conservative party."

He emphasized, "In the face of the ruling opposition party's reckless actions, the new leadership of the People Power Party must have no room for practice or trial and error. Rich and meticulous experience in opposition negotiations, strategy, and persistence are necessary to overcome the overwhelming numerical disadvantage," highlighting his previous roles as the Policy Committee Chair and Chair of the Special Budget and Accounts Committee in the first half of the 21st National Assembly. He added, "Based on my experience, I will conduct wise negotiations to ultimately win against the ruling opposition party," and stressed, "I will create a trusted conservative party and a competent ruling party."


Meanwhile, Rep. Sung Il-jong, a three-term lawmaker from Seosan-si Taean-gun, Chungnam, who was mentioned as a candidate for floor leader, declared he would not run. On his Facebook, Rep. Sung said, "Although I received proposals from several senior and fellow lawmakers, after careful consideration, I have decided not to run in this floor leader election," and expressed, "I hope the newly elected floor leader will lead the party well."


The People Power Party is scheduled to hold the floor leader election on the 9th. Prior to Rep. Lee, three-term Rep. Song Seok-jun from Icheon-si, Gyeonggi, announced his candidacy the day before.
