Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) is conducting detailed safety inspections, diagnostics, and performance evaluations for 32 facilities within Busan Port.
The facilities subject to the service include 10 locations such as the wharf mooring facilities at Gamcheon Port, 17 locations including the international cruise terminal at Bukhang, and 5 locations such as the multipurpose terminal at Shinhang. This service will be carried out year-round from April to December.
The detailed safety inspection identifies inherent risk factors in the facilities through visual surveys and measurement/testing equipment, while the detailed safety diagnosis evaluates the structural safety of the facilities.
Additionally, the performance evaluation comprehensively assesses the performance of the facilities to establish a rational maintenance management strategy.
Busan Port Authority aims to achieve a B grade (good) for all port facilities subject to this detailed safety inspection, diagnosis, and performance evaluation by conducting visual surveys and material tests across all facilities and strengthening interim inspections during the service period.
Currently, more than 26% of the facilities within Busan Port are aged over 30 years, and this proportion is increasing annually, expected to reach about 50% by around 2030.
Lee Sang-kwon, Head of Construction Division at BPA, stated, “We will conduct detailed safety inspections, diagnostics, and performance evaluations meticulously and promote optimal maintenance for aging facilities within Busan Port to ensure a safe Busan Port.”
