AI-based security specialist SandsLab has won a government-led project worth 10 billion KRW.
SandsLab announced on the 3rd that it had secured the 'Core Information Security Technology Development Project' organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).
This project aims to develop a cyber security-specialized large language model (LLM) to suppress AI malfunctions and to establish a citizen-experience demonstration platform.
SandsLab, the executing organization, will oversee the entire development project and form a consortium with LG Uplus, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), FortyTwoMaru, and Logpresso to jointly participate in development.
The research and development period is four years, with 7 billion KRW of government-supported R&D funding invested. The remaining costs will be shared by the companies, making the total project budget 10 billion KRW.
Kim Ki-hong, CEO of SandsLab, said, "We will strive to secure leadership in the security paradigm and enter the global market by integrating various next-generation generative AI technologies such as LLM technology with cyber security technology, spreading to financial institutions, private companies, and industries."
Meanwhile, SandsLab signed a memorandum of understanding in March with LG Uplus and FortyTwoMaru for joint development of LLM technology in the cyber security field, and with Microsoft Korea for the development of next-generation AI-based cyber security technology.
Last year, SandsLab also carried out a 5 billion KRW project for 'Cybersecurity AI Dataset Modernization and Advancement' commissioned by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
