Vice Minister Jeon said, "'Museum and Art Gallery Week' is a festival planned with various considerations so that museums and art galleries can become representative cultural spaces that anyone can easily visit anytime and anywhere," adding, "We hope this provides an opportunity for the public to take a step closer to museums and art galleries and to visit them once more."

Since 2012, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been operating Museum and Art Gallery Week to commemorate International Museum Day, designated annually on May 18 by the International Council of Museums. This year, under the theme 'Museums for Education and Research,' the intrinsic functions and social values of museums and art galleries will be discussed.
