Joint Response for Regional Development and Mutual Growth
Gokseong County and Jeonnam Science University held the first 2024 Public-Academic Regional Development Council meeting on the 2nd to discuss cooperation plans for regional win-win development.
At this council meeting, about 20 officials from both institutions, including the chairman, Gokseong County Planning Director, and the head of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation at Jeonnam Science University, gathered to discuss 22 cooperative projects.
Since its inception in 2017, the council has reached its 20th session and is promoting various projects such as the Public-Academic Regional Development Council project, LIFE2.0 project, youth employment job creation, and research services for selecting and verifying high-quality taro varieties and production capacity.
They reviewed the progress of ongoing cooperative projects utilizing county and university resources, such as the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast Support Project’ and ‘Hope Welfare Mobile Service for Eye Examinations and Eyeglass Repairs,’ and focused discussions on new collaborative projects between institutions, including the ‘Second Public Contest for Education Development Special Zone Pilot Area’ and ‘Support for Circulating Resource Collection Robot (Nephron).’
The ▲1,000 Won Breakfast Support Project, which provides quality breakfast to local university students, is being promoted with increased funding from the county to ensure quality meals. Active discussions were also held on ways to promote local specialties through this project. The ▲Eye Examination and Eyeglass Repair Volunteer Service, initiated in 2019 for local senior citizens, has received high public approval due to the active cooperation of the Department of Optometry at Jeonnam Science University and student volunteer efforts.
This year, the county proposed exploring customized professional talent development plans based on key local industries and establishing a government-industry-academia cooperation system for community development to support the ▲Second Public Contest for Education Development Special Zone Pilot Area, a new challenge. Additionally, the ▲Circulating Resource Collection Robot (Nephron), a machine for separating recyclable materials to reduce carbon emissions and practice ESG, is planned to be installed 2 to 3 units within the county after inter-institutional consultations.
Furthermore, the county suggested listing and selling school enterprise products on the Gokseong County online shopping mall ‘Gokseong Mall’ and requested active promotion, including encouraging faculty and staff membership registration and announcing a 30% discount on all products in celebration of Family Month.
Seo Hyung-gyu, Planning Director, stated, “The Public-Academic Regional Development Council is an essential consultative body for the mutual growth of the region and the university,” adding, “We will continue to take the lead in regional development and innovation through ongoing mutual cooperation with Jeonnam Science University.”
