China Center "Fubao to Meet the Public Soon"

The China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center announced that the quarantine period of giant panda Fubao, who was returned to China last month, is about to end.

On the 1st, the center posted a video titled "Fubao's Quarantine and Inspection Diary 4" on the Chinese social networking service (SNS) Weibo. The center releases short diary-style videos of Fubao's quarantine life once a week.

This 4-minute and 24-second video shows Fubao staying in the quarantine and inspection area of her new home, Wolong Zhonghua Giant Panda Base in Shuangping, enjoying bamboo, apples, bamboo shoots, carrots, and corn bread. It also captures moments of interaction between Fubao and her new caretaker, such as receiving food and holding hands.

In the video description, the center stated, "Fubao's quarantine and inspection period will soon expire," and "Fubao will soon meet the public." They added, "After passing the inspection and evaluation by quarantine authorities, the quarantine period will end. However, to reduce the risks of environmental adaptation, even after the quarantine ends, Fubao will spend additional adaptation time at the Shuangping Base before being introduced to the public at an appropriate time."

After quarantine, Fubao is expected to live at the Wolong Shuangping Base for a while and then settle at one of the Shuangping Base, Hetao Ping Base, Dujiangyan Base, or Ya'an Base.

Meanwhile, Fubao was born on July 20, 2020, to panda Lubao and Aibao, who were sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping in March 2016 as a symbol of Korea-China friendship. Named "Fubao," meaning "treasure that brings happiness," she lived at Everland Panda Land and was affectionately called "Yongin Pussi," "Pugongju," and "Putuntun," gaining much love. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, she brought smiles to many exhausted people with her uniquely bright expression, gaining explosive popularity. Fubao was returned to China on the 3rd, the 1,354th day since her birth.
