Hyundai Motor, US Hybrid Monthly Sales Surpass 10,000 Units

Hyundai Motor's hybrid vehicle sales in the U.S. market surpassed 10,000 units per month for the first time. Thanks to the growth of hybrid vehicles, Hyundai's monthly eco-friendly vehicle sales during the same period recorded an all-time high.


On the 2nd, Hyundai announced that its U.S. hybrid sales in April this year reached 10,096 units, a 24% increase compared to the same period last year. Including plug-in hybrids (PHEV), hybrids (HEV), electric vehicles (EV), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), Hyundai's eco-friendly vehicle sales totaled 16,274 units, accounting for 22% of total sales.


During the same period, Kia sold 5,670 hybrid vehicles in the U.S., down 41% from the previous year. As a result, Kia's U.S. eco-friendly vehicle sales totaled 10,715 units, a 9.2% decrease compared to the same period last year. Although Kia's hybrid sales were sluggish, it continued its strong performance in electric vehicle sales by recording monthly sales of 5,045 units.

The combined eco-friendly vehicle sales of Hyundai and Kia in the U.S. in April reached 26,989 units, a 9% increase compared to the previous year. The share of eco-friendly vehicles in total sales was 19.3%, approaching 20%.


Meanwhile, the total sales of Hyundai and Kia, including internal combustion engine vehicles, in April were 139,865 units, down 3.5% compared to the same period last year. Hyundai sold 74,111 units, a 3.3% decrease from the previous year, and Kia sold 65,754 units, down 3.6%.
