Odongun, Candidate for Head of the Corruption Investigation Office, Faces Controversy Over Daughter's Redevelopment Real Estate Purchase and Subsequent IOU Creation

Controversy has arisen over various allegations related to the daughter of Oh Dong-woon, the nominee for the head of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office, as his parliamentary confirmation hearing approaches, three months after the position was left vacant.

According to the legal community on the 2nd, Oh's eldest daughter, Oh Mo, received a gift of 350 million won from Oh in August 2020 when she was 20 years old, and purchased approximately 18 pyeong of land and a building in Sujeong-gu, Seongnam City, which was about to undergo redevelopment, from her mother Kim Mo for 420 million won. On the land owned by Oh, a large apartment complex with about 3,000 households is planned to be built under the 'Sanseong District Housing Redevelopment Maintenance Project.'

Oh maintains that there is no legal issue since Oh paid gift tax with the money she received, but there are criticisms of 'tax planning' suggesting that the property was gifted to the child before the real estate price increase to reduce taxes. Oh, born in 2000, is currently known to be a student.

Regarding the fact that Oh paid 30 million won as a deposit for Oh's rented room in July 2021, and the controversy over the delayed issuance of a loan confirmation after being nominated as the head, Oh stated that the lease contract was necessarily made in Oh's name to protect the deposit, but he understood that the 30 million won would naturally be returned to him by Oh after the lease period expired.

Additionally, it was revealed that from August 2020 until last year, Oh worked part-time at law firms Ain, Samwoo, and Yulseong, where Oh's judicial training institute classmates were employed, receiving a total salary of 37.48 million won. Oh's wife Kim also worked at the law firm Geumseong, to which Oh belongs, receiving a salary of 199.77 million won over four years from 2019 and 2021 to 2023.

Regarding this, Oh stated, "After my daughter became a university student, she worked part-time as an office assistant at several law firms introduced by me to gain social experience in advance and develop self-reliance and independence, and my wife actually worked supporting litigation tasks and office assistance."

Meanwhile, the Public Officials Crime Investigation Office's Investigation Division 4 (Chief Prosecutor Lee Dae-hwan), which is investigating allegations of external pressure in the investigation of the 'Chae Sang-byeong death case,' summoned and is currently investigating Park Kyung-hoon, former acting head of the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters, on charges of abuse of authority and obstruction of rights.
