'Attacked by Black Pork Fat Terror' Online Post Spreads
Different from Controversial Meat Restaurant... "Thought It Was Fish Meat"

Controversy arose after a famous barbecue restaurant in Jeju Island sold pork belly with excessive fat to customers, and claims have emerged that a similar incident happened at another restaurant. On the 1st, an online community post titled "I also experienced fat terror at Jeju Black Pork Jeodo" was uploaded. The author, A, who visited Jeju last month, began by saying, "Since Jeju fat has become an issue, I want to share my experience of paying for and eating fatty pork."

According to the post, A and their party ordered a total of 150,000 KRW worth of Black Ogyeop (black pork five-layer belly) and fresh ribs. However, the photos A shared show that the red lean meat is faint, and most of it is white fat. A said, "At first, I thought it was eel. I was embarrassed because I paid a lot of money but only got fat," adding, "Before grilling, I said, 'There is too much fat on the meat. Can you replace this with another cut?' but they said the meat delivered daily is different, so they couldn't change it and grilled it immediately."

A asked, "Isn't this amount of fat too much to pay for?" Netizens who saw the photos responded critically, saying things like, "Isn't that fish meat? I wouldn't eat that even if I paid," "It's at a terror level," "You endured and ate that?" and "They really crossed the line."

However, A said that the restaurant in question is different from the one recently involved in controversy and that they cannot disclose the name. They added, "Since it was a trip for my parents' 60th birthday, I didn't want to cause a big fight, and I wrote this thinking I would leave a review afterward, but it was deleted," and "I am posting this hoping that people visiting Seogwipo city to enjoy black pork won't suffer damage."

Earlier, on the 29th of last month, an author B, who has been living in Jeju for a year, posted photos of pork belly at a Jeju restaurant on an online community, claiming "the restaurant committed consumer deception." In B's photos, more than 98% of the pork belly on the grill was fat, and netizens commented, "It looks more like it's for wiping the grill than for eating."

As the controversy over the restaurant escalated, the owner, C, stated on the 30th, "Regardless of the situation, reasons, or facts at the time, I sincerely apologize for the unsatisfactory parts." He added, "I regret that if I had been at the store myself, things might have been different, but since our trusted staff responded, I consider it the same as if I had responded," promising compensation to affected customers. He also pledged, "For the next month, all customers visiting the store will receive an additional 200g of Ogyeop (five-layer pork belly)."

However, upon hearing this, B criticized, saying, "In a world where everything can be solved with money, I don't want to sell my conscience for a few pennies of compensation," and "I think the whole nation should know what they have done to consumers so far."
