Seongdong-gu Opens School Sports Facilities for Residents

May 1 Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Signs MOU to Promote Opening of School Sports Facilities, Opens 3 Schools Including Haengdang Middle School... Opens Gymnasiums and Playgrounds on Weekends Without Classes, Assigns School Managers for Safe Management

Seongdong-gu Opens School Sports Facilities for Residents

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jung Won-oh) is promoting the 'School Manager Pilot Project' to activate the opening of school sports facilities.

To this end, on May 1st, Seongdong-gu Office signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding for the Promotion of Opening School Sports Facilities' with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.

The 'School Manager Pilot Project' mainly involves opening school gyms and playgrounds to residents on Saturdays and Sundays when there are no classes, and assigning school managers to each school to manage these sports facilities. Although there has been a steady demand from residents for opening sports facilities within schools, schools have faced limitations in actively opening them due to concerns about safety and security.

The main roles of the school managers include ▲ managing the entry of outsiders to the school ▲ verifying the identity of facility reservation users ▲ controlling the entry of outsiders during facility use ▲ monitoring illegal activities by users and ensuring safety ▲ inspecting facilities, etc.

Seongdong-gu expects that the 'School Manager Pilot Project' introduced through this agreement will greatly satisfy the demand for community sports spaces, and plans to gradually expand the project starting with three schools including Haengdang Middle School this year.

The project costs, such as hiring school managers and user liability insurance fees, will be shared equally between Seongdong-gu and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. Seongdong-gu will be responsible for subscribing to facility liability insurance, hiring, managing, and dispatching school managers, while the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will handle selecting schools to open and providing incentives to schools.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "The School Manager Pilot Project has alleviated the burden on schools regarding facility opening," and added, "We plan to actively support more schools to participate in opening within the scope that does not infringe on students' safety and educational activities."
