Session Presentations by Three Expert Professors Led by Chair Professor Choi Insu
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae), in collaboration with EBS, announced on the 2nd that it will hold the second "Y Education Forum" under the main theme "The Person Who Becomes a Classroom by Themselves in the AI Era" on May 17th at 4 PM at the Digital Media Center on the 3rd floor of Yangcheon-gu Office.
With the advent of the "Generative AI Era," the district decided on this theme to emphasize the increasing importance of integrative thinking and creative capabilities amid the flood of information, enabling future generations to experience diverse learning methods and develop self-directed learning abilities by leveraging their own interests.
Through this, Yangcheon-gu, as an educational city, is expected to proactively present a bold vision ranging from essential competencies future talents must possess, various learning methods that create self-driven motivation for learning, to the future educational direction for educational stakeholders.
The forum will involve about 150 participants including education officials, students, parents, and citizens, and will feature in-depth discussions lasting approximately 120 minutes with four renowned domestic scholars on topics such as "Open Education in the AI Era," "Creativity," and "Understanding Brain Cognition in the AI Era."
First, the forum chair, Professor Choi In-su (Professor of Child and Adolescent Studies and Director of the Gifted Education Center at Sungkyunkwan University), will begin with a keynote speech titled "Growing Beyond Anxiety into Creative Freedom." Afterwards, expert professors from each field will participate as panelists and present on three session topics: ▲Brain Cognition ▲Learning Structuring Strategies ▲Human-AI Interaction.
Specifically, ▲Professor Lee In-ah (Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Seoul National University) will present on "Neural Mechanisms of Brain Activity Related to Learning and Memory, Focusing on Hippocampal Characteristics and Contextual Cognition That Parents Must Know," ▲Professor Park Eun-il (Department of AI Convergence, Sungkyunkwan University) will discuss "Learning Structuring Strategies Examined Through the Efficiency of Combined Online and Offline Classes," and ▲Professor Kim Ju-ho (School of Computing, KAIST) will deliver a presentation on "Human and AI Interaction." The forum will conclude with an in-depth comprehensive discussion, creating a lively platform for public discourse.
Those wishing to apply can register in advance or on-site via the Y Education Expo 2024 website. Notably, this forum will be specially broadcast for about 40 minutes as part of the EBS special program "In the AI Era, Become Your Own Classroom," scheduled to air in June and July.
Last year, to ensure the successful hosting of the Y Education Expo, the district signed a business agreement with the public education platform EBS to secure public interest and expertise. In particular, the jointly planned "Y Education Forum" with EBS was praised for presenting the direction future education should take.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, "The Y Education Forum will serve as a platform where Yangcheon-gu, as an educational city, proactively presents the future direction of education amid rapidly changing educational environments. I hope many people will attend and that this forum will foster constructive discussions and communication on future education in the AI era, contributing to the advancement of education in Korea."
