"I Should Have Done YouTube Too" - Colleague's Jealous Reaction to Chungju Man's Special Promotion

Kim Seon-tae, a 'Chungju man' who was promoted to grade 6 at the end of last year, revealed that he faced jealousy from some colleagues.


On the 30th of last month, a video titled "Honest Confession About Resignation, I've Made a Decision" was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Studio Suje'. The video showed Kim Seon-tae having breakfast together with MC Jang Sung-gyu during his visit.

When Jang Sung-gyu asked, "How did your colleagues react after your special promotion?", Kim replied, "My approval rating dropped a lot. I thought my approval rating within Chungju City Hall was usually over 30%, but now it has plummeted to 15-20%."


He added, "I have actually seen cases of protest," and said, "(One colleague) found out about my promotion and loudly told others, 'Ah, I should have done YouTube too.' I know that person's name. I will call him later as a junior and tell him to try YouTube once."


Then, when Jang Sung-gyu mentioned the conservative atmosphere among public officials and asked if dual employment was possible, Kim explained, "There is a prohibition on dual employment, but since I do not appear professionally on a continuous basis and it is a one-time thing, it is not a profit-making activity. Also, since it is for promoting Chungju City, it does not count as dual employment."


He further stated about the distribution of appearance fees, "I do not share the appearance fees with my agency (City Hall). Since I receive them under legitimate authority, I receive all the appearance fees myself."


President Yoon Seok-yeol mentioned 'ChungTV' at the first Cabinet meeting of the new year in January and encouraged policy promotion by central government ministries. President Yoon said, "The young official in charge of promoting Chungju City created a YouTube channel called 'ChungTV' and promoted policies in a fresh and fun way, with subscribers exceeding twice the population of Chungju," adding, "Such innovation is necessary."


When Jang Sung-gyu referred to this and asked, "How did you feel when the current president praised you at the Cabinet meeting?", Kim replied, "I was really surprised."


He said, "In a way, he is the head of our label. Honestly, I had a complex. It is true that we gained popularity and views and that Chungju City became famous, but from the perspective of our City Hall, YouTube promotion in the administrative field was a niche area," and added, "Since it was officially mentioned, it means we were recognized."


Meanwhile, ChungTV has the largest number of subscribers among local governments, with 714,000 subscribers. ChungTV is the official YouTube channel of Chungju City, where Kim Seon-tae is responsible for editing, filming, planning, casting, and appearing. It is characterized by using various memes to easily convey city administration promotions.
