Kim Haerim Wins 3rd Consecutive Kyocera Ladies Open
Yang Heeyoung Secures 3rd Victory at Honda LPGA Thailand
Park Seri Achieves Record 5 Wins at Marathon Classic
There are players who excel in specific tournaments.
Kim Hae-rim, famous as the "Egg Golfer," soared at the KLPGA Tour Kyochon 1991 Ladies Open (total prize money 800 million KRW). In the tournament celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, she achieved a three-peat from 2016 to 2018. In KLPGA history, a three-peat in the same tournament has not been accomplished for 16 years since Kang Soo-yeon (retired) at the Hite Jinro Championship (2000?2002).
Kim Hae-rim used to eat 30 eggs daily to increase her driving distance. It is also interesting that she performs well at the Kyochon 1991 Ladies Open, sponsored by a leading domestic chicken company. She has accumulated eight wins on the KLPGA Tour and made a surprise victory as an invited player at the JLPGA Tour Samantha Thavasa Ladies in July 2017. She will challenge her fourth title at the Kyochon 1991 Ladies Open, which opens on the 3rd at Golfzon County Seonsan in Gumi, Gyeongbuk (par 72, 6,602 yards).
Yang Hee-young, known as the "embodiment of diligence," also has an interesting record. She debuted on the LPGA Tour in 2008 and is a veteran with five career wins. She particularly thrived in the hot climate of Thailand, winning the Honda LPGA Thailand in 2015, 2017, and 2019. Even when struggling without a win, she excelled at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Her most recent victory was at the CME Group Tour Championship, the final event, in November last year.
Park Se-ri, the "living legend of Korean women's golf," also holds remarkable records. She joined the LPGA Tour in 1998 and amassed the most wins by a Korean player with 25 victories. She won five times at the Marathon Classic (now the Dana Open) alone. After her first win at the Marathon Classic in 1998, she added four more trophies in 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2007. Including Park Se-ri's wins, Korea has collectively secured 12 victories at the Marathon Classic.
