From the 1st, over 20,000 global visitors, including 280 coffee companies from more than 70 countries and about 12,000 industry professionals, will gather at BEXCO in Busan to explore coffee-related products, technologies, services, and baristas representing each country.
Hosted by Busan City and the Speciality Coffee Association, and organized by Busan Technopark along with Exporum, the organizer of the Seoul Cafe Show, the ‘2024 World of Coffee & World Barista Championship Busan’ opened on the 1st at Busan BEXCO.
World of Coffee Busan is a globally prestigious specialty coffee exhibition held annually in Europe to promote the development of the global coffee industry, nurture talent, and activate the specialty coffee community. This year marks its first-ever event in Asia, held in Busan, South Korea.
Global coffee industry leaders, buyers, professionals, and visitors aspiring to enter the coffee industry can explore domestic and international coffee (green beans and raw beans), coffee equipment, tools, supplies, and raw materials.
Additionally, the Roaster Village, which will fill the exhibition hall with the unique aromas of roastery cafes, features roastery cafes and brands from 20 countries.
Through the operation of the SCA Community Lounge for expanding the global specialty coffee industry network, a platform for global networking is provided. The Cupping Room offers opportunities to see and taste coffee beans directly from major coffee-producing regions worldwide, including Asia, South America, and Africa, allowing visitors to evaluate and sample beans from these key origins.
Domestic and international coffee experts participate as speakers in the SCA Lecture Series, a deep coffee talk forum selecting unique topics related to specialty coffee. It delivers not only knowledge about coffee but also various insights and inspiration related to the coffee industry.
Speakers include Jeon Ju-yeon, the 2019 World Barista Championship winner from Momos Coffee; Jo Yoo-dong, CEO of Yudong Coffee, awarded the 2020 Korea Coffee Industry Award; Kim Seung-baek, barista and champion of the 2022 Korea Brewers Cup Championship from MI Coffee; as well as other renowned domestic and international baristas and industry figures. The SCA Lecture Series will be held on May 2nd.
Simultaneously with World of Coffee Busan, the 2024 World Barista Championship Busan, held in Korea for the first time in seven years, is attracting the attention of coffee professionals and enthusiasts worldwide. The World Barista Championship Busan, the most prestigious barista competition globally, will take place over four days until the 4th at the competition venue inside Hall 1 of BEXCO during the World of Coffee Busan event.
In this ‘World Barista Championship Busan,’ 51 national representative baristas from various countries will participate, preparing four types each of espresso, milk, and original signature drinks.
On the first and second days, preliminary rounds will be held, and by 6 p.m. on the 2nd, 15 participants advancing to the semifinals will be decided. Following the semifinals, only six will proceed to the finals, and the championship match will determine the 2024 top barista, who will be announced at 6 p.m. on the final day, the 4th.
The ‘World Barista Championship’ is the world’s most prestigious coffee championship, first held in 2000 in Monte Carlo. Past world barista champions such as Australia’s Paul Bassett, Norway’s Tim Wendelboe, the USA’s Michael Phillips, and South Korea’s Jeon Ju-yeon now represent their respective countries’ coffee industries and serve as leaders in the global coffee industry.
The ‘2024 World of Coffee & World Barista Championship Busan’ opened on the 1st and will run for four days until the 4th at Hall 1 of BEXCO in Busan.
