Mokpo National University President Song Hacheol Participates in SNS Relay Campaign to Attract Medical School

Mokpo National University Must Resolve the Long-Standing Demand of Jeonnam Residents for the Establishment of a Medical School

On the 1st, Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced that it participated in an SNS relay campaign to attract a medical school, a long-standing wish of the residents of Jeonnam.

The "Mokpo National University Medical School Attraction SNS Relay Campaign," initiated by Mokpo City, began on the 25th of last month with Mayor Park Hong-ryul of Mokpo as the first participant. Mayor Park appealed that a medical school must be established at Mokpo National University to protect the right to life of residents in the western Jeonnam region, and he nominated Song Ha-cheol, President of Mokpo National University, and Moon Cha-bok, Chairman of the Mokpo City Council, as the next participants.

President Song Ha-cheol of Mokpo National University said, "President Yoon Suk-yeol stated that by increasing the quota for medical schools, he aims to 'resolve medical underdevelopment areas and create regions where citizens can live, achieving national balanced development.' Former Presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye, as well as past governors of Jeonnam, also promised to promote the establishment of a medical school at Mokpo National University for the rural and island residents suffering without doctors. After 34 years of the local residents' calls, it is now time for the government and Jeollanam-do to respond."

Mokpo National University has been requesting the government to establish a medical school since 1990 and has thoroughly prepared for the establishment of a national medical school by securing a 50,000-pyeong site on the Mokpo campus.

President Song Ha-cheol nominated Jeong Hyun-taek, Chairman of the Mokpo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Go Chang-hoe, Chairman of the Daebul Industrial Complex Employers' Association, as the next participants in the Mokpo National University Medical School Attraction SNS Relay Campaign.
