Geochang-gun Selected as an Excellent Agricultural and Marine Food Export City for Two Consecutive Years

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 1st that it received the Institutional Encouragement Award in the Agricultural and Marine Products Export Policy Evaluation category at the 28th Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural and Marine Products Export Tower Awards Ceremony held at Changwon Convention Center, attended by more than 200 export-related personnel including Deputy Governor Lee Byung-cheol.

The Gyeongnam Agricultural and Marine Products Export Policy Evaluation is organized by Gyeongsangnam-do and selects outstanding cities and counties among the 18 cities and counties in the province based on export performance, export growth rate, fostering of export-specialized companies, overseas market development activities, and the efforts and interest of cities and counties to expand exports.

Geochang-gun was honored to be selected as an excellent city/county for two consecutive years by receiving the Encouragement Award again this year following last year.

Last year, the county promoted various export support projects such as supporting the acquisition of overseas certifications and fostering export-specialized agricultural and food processing companies to establish an agricultural and food export foundation. It also prepared measures such as operating agricultural and food promotion booths at the Seoul International Food Industry Exhibition and participating in the LA Korean Festival Agricultural and Marine Expo to continuously discover overseas export trading partners.

In particular, efforts to revitalize rice exports resulted in the export of about 180 tons of rice to the Americas, achieving a 500% growth in rice exports.

Based on these efforts, both fresh agricultural products and processed food exports showed an upward trend, achieving an agricultural and food export performance of 85.4 million USD last year, a 4% increase compared to the previous year.

Along with the county’s institutional award, Pureun Agricultural Products, which exports dried seaweed and instant cooked foods, and Haneul Bio Agricultural Corporation, which exports fried seaweed products, received the ‘500,000 USD Export Tower’ award.

Geochang-gun has set its agricultural and food export target at 86 million USD this year and plans to achieve the export goal by strengthening marketing activities to discover and foster strategic export items and secure competitiveness in agricultural and food exports.

Deputy Governor Lee Byung-cheol, who attended the awards ceremony, said, “Despite the difficult export environment, good results were achieved thanks to the efforts of exporting farmers and companies,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to revitalize Geochang agricultural and food exports and pioneer overseas markets.”
