Suspicion of Money Envelope Distribution to Party Eup-Myeon Council Presidents Ahead of General Election... Incheon City Council Member Raided

The police have launched a forced investigation against an Incheon city council member suspected of delivering money envelopes to township council chairpersons from the same party in connection with the April 10 general election.

According to the police on the 30th, the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a search and seizure at the homes and offices of Council Member A of the Incheon City Council and Mr. B, a township council chairperson of a certain political party, who are suspected of violating the Public Official Election Act.

Council Member A is suspected of handing over 1 million won each to 13 township council chairpersons, including Mr. B, from the same party last month ahead of the April 10 general election, totaling 26 million won. However, Council Member A is reported to have completely denied the allegations of giving money envelopes to the township council chairpersons.

The Incheon City Election Commission, which received a tip-off, recently transferred the case to the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency. The township council chairpersons held by Mr. B and others are positions given by the political party, not by local government bodies.

A police official stated, "Since the investigation is in its early stages, we cannot disclose specific details of the charges," but added, "We plan to conduct the investigation promptly."
