Cheonan City in Chungnam held a meeting with related organizations to discuss practical operation plans for the safe operation of shared personal mobility devices.
The meeting held on the 29th was attended by the city, police, and operators in response to the recent increase in traffic accidents involving shared personal mobility devices.
Participants at the meeting cited inconvenience in carrying helmets and hygiene issues of shared helmets as reasons for users not wearing helmets, and proposed measures such as discounts for wearing helmets and helmet-wearing campaigns as countermeasures.
They also discussed lowering the maximum speed of shared personal mobility devices from 25 km/h to 20 km/h as a measure to reduce the fatality rate of accidents.
A city official stated, “Shared personal mobility device operators and related organizations plan to actively work to establish a proper culture of personal mobility device use based on the results of this meeting.”
