Chungnam Province Begins Preliminary Feasibility Study for Boryeong-Daejeon Expressway

Chungnam Province announced on the 29th that it has commenced a preliminary feasibility study for the construction of the Boryeong~Daejeon Expressway.

The Boryeong~Daejeon Expressway, connecting Boryeong, Buyeo, Nonsan, Gyeryong, and Daejeon over 70 km, is expected to cost approximately 3.4 trillion KRW. The expressway is included as a circular radial axis in the 2nd National Road Network Comprehensive Plan (2021?2030) and is also a campaign pledge of President Yoon Seok-yeol and Governor Kim Tae-heum.

The province plans to conduct the study until November, aiming to propose the optimal route through traffic demand surveys, economic feasibility analysis, and technical assessments. Additionally, a "Korean-style Autobahn straight expressway" that can reduce travel time from the Chungcheong inland area to the west coast will also be reviewed.

Once connected, travel time from Daejeon to Boryeong is expected to be reduced from the current 1 hour 50 minutes to within 1 hour.

Kim Taek-jung, Director of the Construction and Transportation Bureau of the province, stated, "The Boryeong~Daejeon Expressway will significantly shorten east-west travel distance and time, revitalize the regional economy, and serve as a major artery supporting the construction of the Chungcheong Mega City. We will focus administrative efforts on early construction."
