Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun Attends 'Special City Forum Workshop' "Please Unite to Enact Support Law"

Lee Jae-jun, Mayor of Suwon, attended the ‘Special City Development Suwon Citizens Forum’ workshop and urged, "Please join forces to ensure the enactment of the ‘Special Act on Support for Special Cities.’"


Mayor Lee Jae-jun attended the workshop held by the Special City Development Suwon Citizens Forum at the Ilwol Arboretum Visitor Center on the 29th and said, "The President promised to create a special act to support special cities, so I ask you all to contribute your efforts to ensure the smooth enactment of this special act."


He added, "Please actively engage not only in the enactment of the Special Act on Support for Special Cities but also in improving regulations on the Metropolitan Area Readjustment Planning Act’s overpopulation control zone, which is a current issue for Suwon, and in promoting the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport."

Earlier, President Yoon Suk-yeol promised the enactment of the Special Act on Support for Special Cities during a public discussion on people’s livelihood held at Yongin City Hall on March 25, stating, "We will establish a legal framework so that special cities can properly establish various urban development plans, including strategic industries."


The Special City Development Suwon Citizens Forum was launched in January this year and is composed of four divisions: ▲Public Relations Strategy Division ▲External Cooperation Division ▲Special System Division ▲Finance and Economy Division. A total of 53 members, including citizen representatives, professors, youth representatives, women representatives, business representatives, small business owners, NGO civic groups, researchers, and Suwon City Council members, serve as committee members across the four divisions.


Meanwhile, at the forum held that day, Kwon Hyuk-sung, Dean of the Graduate School of Public Policy at Ajou University, was elected as the representative chairman. Additionally, the following were appointed as co-chairmen: Lim Jong-myeong, President of the Suwon High School Alumni Association; Lee Ho-yong, President of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Residents Association; Kim Seong-ho, President of the Yeongnam Hometown Association; Kim Ju-hyung, President of the Honam Hometown Association Federation; Lee Jong-yoon, President of the Chungcheong Residents Association; and Park Jeong-gyun, President of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Residents Association.
