Geumcheon-gu Operates 'Sustainable Geumcheon Academy' to Revitalize Community Economy

Geumcheon-gu Operates 'Sustainable Geumcheon Academy' to Revitalize Community Economy

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will operate the ‘Sustainable Geumcheon Academy’ at the Community Economy Integrated Support Center for four weeks starting from May 13 to revitalize the local social economy.


The program was prepared to expand consensus on the value of the social economy and to help social enterprises grow as economic agents contributing to the development of the local community.


The education is designed to help residents interested in the social economy understand it better and to enable prospective entrepreneurs to learn the basic knowledge necessary for establishing social economy organizations. It covers topics such as the definition and cases of social enterprises and problem-solving, types and cases of cooperatives, and understanding and cases of village communities.


The sessions will be held four times every Monday from 10 a.m. for two hours starting May 13. A professional lecturer will give talks on the following themes: 1st session, ‘Social Innovation and Social Economy’; 2nd session, ‘Understanding Social Enterprises’; 3rd session, ‘Understanding Cooperatives’; and 4th session, ‘Social Economy Together with the Community.’


Those who complete the entire course will be given opportunities to connect with social economy-related business practitioners. In addition, they will be given priority selection for the upcoming ‘Geumcheon-gu Social Economy Startup and Management Consulting’ project, among various other supports.


Any prospective social economy entrepreneurs in the district, young entrepreneurs preparing for value-based startups, women with career experience, and residents interested in the social economy can participate. Applications can be submitted via the QR code on the promotional materials or by phone to the District Office’s Autonomous Administration Division by May 10, and on-site registration is also available on the day of the education.


Additionally, the district operates the ‘Geumcheon Community Economy Career Education Visiting Schools’ program for seven middle schools in the area to help youth understand the background of social enterprises and cultivate entrepreneurial spirit.


Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope this meaningful education will help people learn about the social economy, which addresses complex social issues through a sense of community.”
