Glocal Future Education Expo D-30, Jeonnam Office of Education Commits to Successful Operation

Yeosu World Expo Site and 63 Locations, Participation from 22 Countries

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education held a pledge event for the education community on the 29th at Expo Hall, Yeosu World Expo Site, marking D-30 days until the successful hosting of the 2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo.


The ‘2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo’ is scheduled to take place over five days from May 29 to June 2, featuring 138 diverse programs including conferences, future classrooms, future education, exhibitions, cultural and artistic exchanges, and future education across the Yeosu World Expo Site and 63 locations throughout Jeonnam.

The event will be held on an 87,000㎡ site, which corresponds to 50% of the Yeosu World Expo Site area, with an expected 160,000 visitors. Notably, 773 schools nationwide and 63 domestic and international companies are anticipated to participate in the conferences and exhibitions.


On this day, about 600 members of the education community, including Superintendent Kim Dae-jung, Vice Superintendent Hwang Seong-hwan, executives from the provincial education office, affiliated institutions, education support offices, the Jeonnam Public-Private-Academic Cooperation Committee, and members of the Jeonnam Parents Association, gathered to pledge the successful operation of the expo.


Additionally, National Assembly member Joo Cheol-hyun, 22nd National Assembly member-elect Seo Mi-hwa, Gyeongbuk Deputy Superintendent Kim Tae-hyung, and representatives from the Jeonnam Provincial Council including Education Committee Chair Jo Ok-hyun and council members Song Hyung-gon, Choi Mu-kyung, Jang Eun-young, Lee Kwang-il, and Seo Dae-hyun participated.


On this day, an award ceremony was held for the expo’s theme song, ‘Shout Out to the World! Glocal!’, which was composed by a teacher from Jeonnam using an artificial intelligence (AI) program and became a major topic of interest. This theme song, arranged by composer Kim Hyung-seok, will be presented as an entertaining flash mob three times daily during the expo.


Composer Kim Hyung-seok gave a special lecture titled ‘Viewing Future Education through K-Culture.’ As a judge of the theme song contest, he explained the influential AI technology in the arts field and proposed tasks for coexistence with AI as well as directions for future education, drawing enthusiastic responses.


Superintendent Kim Dae-jung stated, “The logo of the Glocal Future Education Expo symbolizes connection and expansion, with participation from 22 countries. The opening of the expo, which will be the starting point for a major transformation in Korea’s future education, is progressing smoothly thanks to the efforts of the education community and cooperation from local society. We will do our best to maintain vigilance over the next month and ensure a safe and substantial expo.”
