On Labor Day, the two major labor unions will hold large-scale rallies in downtown Seoul, causing expected traffic congestion.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 30th that rallies and marches will continue around Sejong-daero, Eulji-ro, and Hangang-daero on the 1st of next month, resulting in partial road closures.
The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) plans to hold the "2024 World Labor Day Rally" from 2 p.m. on Labor Day at the Sejong-daero Intersection to Daehanmun section in Jongno-gu, Seoul, followed by a march.
Additionally, the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) will hold the "National Workers' Rally" at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, at the same time.
The police intend to maintain traffic flow for vehicles such as metropolitan area buses during the rallies. Around the rally and march routes, about 200 traffic police officers will be deployed to manage vehicle detours and operate reversible lanes.
A police official said, "Traffic congestion is expected throughout the downtown Seoul area," and urged, "Please use public transportation such as the subway as much as possible, and if you must use a vehicle, check traffic information in advance."
