On the morning of the 29th, the 10.29 Itaewon Disaster Bereaved Families Association and the Citizens’ Countermeasure Committee held an emergency press conference in front of the altar at Seoul Plaza, Jung-gu, Seoul, making this demand.

Lee Jeong-min, the operating committee chairperson of the Bereaved Families Association, said, “Since this meeting was created to convey the public sentiment from the general election, the 10.29 Itaewon Disaster Truth Investigation Special Act must be today’s agenda.” She also requested the representative to “convey the demands of the bereaved families and citizens who seek the truth of the Itaewon disaster to President Yoon without any alteration.”

Furthermore, Chairperson Lee emphasized, “If the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and the ruling People Power Party intend to accept the public sentiment revealed in the general election and change the national policy direction, the first step must be to finalize the Itaewon Disaster Truth Investigation Special Act within the 21st National Assembly.”

Additionally, Yoon Bok-nam, vice president of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society, added, “This country has neglected the difficult situation of the bereaved families for one and a half years,” and urged, “We demand that the agreement on the Itaewon Disaster Special Act begin as the first step toward social progress.”
