Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) has started supporting exam fees for certification tests for unemployed youth. The district explained that many young people who wish to find employment hesitate to take language and certification exams due to financial burdens, prompting the establishment of this support measure.
The support targets residents aged 19 to 39 who have been registered in Gangseo-gu since before January 1 of this year and who are currently unemployed or not registered as business owners at the time of application.
The eligible exams include language proficiency tests such as TOEIC, TOEIC Speaking, TOEFL, Chinese, Japanese taken this year, the Korean History Proficiency Test, as well as national technical certifications, national professional certifications, and nationally accredited certifications. There is no limit on the number of attempts, and up to 100,000 KRW per person will be supported within the amount spent on exam fees.
However, support may end early if the budget is exhausted. Those who have already received support through similar programs such as the Seoul Youth Allowance or who registered but did not attend the certification exam are not eligible.
Applicants can apply through the Gangseo-gu website's integrated reservation system or visit the Gangseo-gu Job Policy Division. After submitting the application and related documents, support will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis following verification of duplicate applicants. Detailed eligibility criteria, required documents, and eligible exams can be found on the district's website.
The TOEIC exam fee increased by 4,500 KRW starting from the regular test on June 16 this year, now costing 52,500 KRW, and the English speaking test 'OPIc' exam fee increased by 5,900 KRW to 84,000 KRW.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “We hope many job-seeking youth will show interest and apply for this language and certification exam fee support,” adding, “We will do our best to create an environment where young people, the hope of the future, can pursue their dreams.”
