Report Breeding, Slaughtering, Distribution, and Sales by May 7
All Activities for Food Purposes Completely Prohibited from 2027
Adieu, OO Tang!
Ulsan City will begin full-scale administrative procedures to end dog meat consumption following the promulgation of the 'Dog Meat Consumption Abolition Act' on February 6.
According to the Dog Meat Consumption Abolition Act, the establishment of new dog meat breeding farms, slaughterhouses, distributors, and food service businesses is prohibited.
Additionally, from 2027 onwards, it will be illegal to breed, raise, or slaughter dogs for food purposes, and the distribution and sale of food prepared or processed using dogs as ingredients will be banned.
In particular, business operators currently running dog meat-related establishments must submit an operation report directly to the district or county office in charge of their business location by May 7, and by August 5, they must also submit an implementation plan including plans for business reduction, transfer, or closure schedules.
If the operation report and implementation plan are not submitted within the deadline, the business will be excluded from support for transfer or closure, and closure measures will be enforced along with a fine of up to 3 million KRW.
For more details, contact the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs call center. They provide guidance on how to report dog breeding farms, prepare implementation plans, and direct inquiries to the relevant departments.
An official from Ulsan City stated, “Once the reports are submitted, responsible officials will visit the sites to verify operational status,” adding, “We hope that business operators submit the operation report and implementation plan within the deadline to avoid exclusion from support or administrative penalties.”
