According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the earthquake occurred at 5:36 PM that day at a depth of 540 km underwater.
The epicenter was located at 27.90 degrees north latitude and 140.00 degrees east longitude.
The Ogasawara Islands are Pacific islands about 1000 km south of central Tokyo, and are a region where earthquakes occur relatively frequently.
In Ogasawara, a seismic intensity of 3 was detected from this earthquake, but no tsunami warning was issued.
The seismic intensity scale used by the Japan Meteorological Agency is a relative concept indicating the degree of shaking felt by people or objects in the affected area, unlike magnitude which represents absolute strength. It is measured on a scale from 0 to 7. A seismic intensity of 3 corresponds to a level where most people indoors feel the shaking.
