At around 9:10 a.m. on the 27th, a fire broke out on a ship at a shipyard in Sadeung-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam, injuring 11 people with burns.
According to the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters, among the 35 workers present during the fire, 4 sustained serious injuries and 7 sustained minor injuries.
The injured workers include one in their 50s, six in their 60s, three in their 70s, and one in their 80s, mainly suffering burns to the face and arms. They were transported to hospitals in Changwon, Geoje, and Busan.
The fire authorities deployed 88 personnel and 26 pieces of equipment, extinguishing the fire completely by around 9:46 a.m. They rescued 3 workers and assisted 32 others in evacuating on their own.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause and extent of the damage based on reports that the fire occurred during ship paint removal work.
