"Is She Really in Her 60s?"... Crowned at Argentina Beauty Pageant with No Age Limit

Active Lawyer and Journalist
"Beauty Has No Age"

In an unexpected turn of events at the Argentina beauty pageant, a woman in her 60s took first place after the age restriction for participants was lifted.

Foreign media outlets such as the AP News and Buenos Aires Times focused on the results of the 'Miss Universe Buenos Aires' pageant held on the 24th (local time) in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, on the 25th. In this competition, Alejandra Rodriguez took first place. Rodriguez is a lawyer and journalist, and she is 60 years old this year.

Previously, the organizers of the pageant had an age limit allowing only those between 18 and 28 years old to participate, but this rule was abolished starting this year. From now on, women aged from 18 to 73 can participate in the competition.

Thanks to this change, Rodriguez was able to enter the competition and earned the honor of taking first place, surpassing strong contenders. Local media such as the Buenos Aires Times evaluated this as "showing a broader cultural shift toward inclusivity and diversity in beauty pageants."

In her acceptance speech, Rodriguez said, "I am very happy to have won the Miss Buenos Aires title," adding, "I wanted to show that beauty has no age and that barriers can be broken for all women."

She continued, "A new era is about to open that represents not only women's physical beauty but also different values," and added, "I am the person who has crossed the starting line of this new era."

Rodriguez is also expected to compete in the '2024 Miss Universe Argentina,' where she will face contestants from across the country beyond Buenos Aires.
