Hwaseong City, First Basic Local Government to Establish 'AI Strategy Division'

Composed of AI Strategy Team, Mobility Strategy Team, and Public Drone Team

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has become the first basic local government in the country to establish a department related to artificial intelligence (AI).

Hwaseong City announced on the 26th that it recently created the 'AI Strategy Division' in its organizational restructuring to address new administrative demands following its entry into the category of large cities with over one million residents and to prepare for the future society.

The newly established 'AI Strategy Division' consists of three teams: the 'AI Strategy Team,' which builds the administrative infrastructure for AI adoption and handles support projects in related fields; the 'Mobility Strategy Team,' responsible for autonomous driving and future mobility projects; and the 'Public Drone Team,' which manages public drone-related projects and urban air mobility (UAM) tasks.

The AI Strategy Division will particularly focus on introducing Hwaseong City-tailored AI to promote administrative innovation in the public sector, foster related industries, and thereby contribute to regional economic development and improve citizens' quality of life, the city explained.

Jung Myung-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, stated, "We will provide high-quality administrative services to citizens and proactively respond to the AI-based future society."
