Meritz Financial Introduces 'Open Investor Meeting'... Accepting Questions from Common Shareholders

Meritz Financial Group announced on the 26th that it will introduce an open investor relations (IR) format involving general shareholders starting from the announcement of its first-quarter business results this year.

The open investor relations session will be the first attempt among domestic financial companies where management directly answers questions collected in advance from general shareholders. From today until May 6, questions from general shareholders will be gathered through a popup on the Meritz Financial Group website, and on the conference call scheduled for May 14, answers will be provided focusing on the issues most shareholders are curious about. This reflects the philosophy that "one share of a major shareholder and one share of an individual investor are equal." Meritz Financial Group plans to use the conference calls, which have been operated mainly for institutional investors, as a channel for active communication with general shareholders as well.

Since the ‘One Meritz’ transition in April last year, key group CEOs such as Vice Chairman Kim Yong-beom, Vice Chairman Choi Hee-moon, Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance CEO Kim Jung-hyun, and Meritz Securities CEO Jang Won-jae have directly answered questions from institutional investors during IR sessions. This is in line with the management’s principle that "those in responsible positions should speak responsibly."

In advanced investment countries like the United States, it is not unusual for management to communicate with general individual shareholders. At Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting, often called the ‘Woodstock of Capitalism,’ major shareholders from around the world attend every year to engage in long, informal discussions and communication.

A Meritz Financial Group official said, “The introduction of this open investor relations session is one of the measures to strengthen shareholder-friendly management,” adding, “We will take a step closer to shareholders through this IR and expand genuine communication.”
